Southbound, you can take the Florence Lake cutoff trail and go approximately 1/2 mile to us from the JMT. Northbound, take the trail marked Muir Trail Ranch for 1.5 miles from the JMT
It depends on availability. During our busy season in July, August and early September, we generally are booked solid with no “wiggle room” to change your reservation. Sometimes there are last-minute cancellations or no-shows and then we can fit you in. It is therefore important to be on time for your reserved date. We recommend building in an extra day into your hiking itinerary prior to your arrival to us, so you have options.
You probably can’t. Satellite communicators are a great idea in theory, but we find that most of them are unreliable and we sometimes get your email hours, days or weeks after we should have received it. It is unusual to get any cell service on the JMT, though it happens occasionally.
Since we are designated as a “camp” rather than a hotel, we do not provide full linen service. Your bed will have a mattress pad and bottom sheet, pillows with cases and a pretty quilt.
Sorry, our laundry setup is limited and a doing full wash and dry on a sleeping bag burns too much of our resources.
We’ve discovered that household washing machines don’t like our off-grid power and creek water situation, and so we can’t offer a “normal” washing experience. We do have some hand-powered washers over by the clothesline area, and there is a hose and laundry soap for your use.
Please don’t, this always attracts bears and other forest friends to your cabin. We will provide meals with your stay up in the dining area, and you can leave your personal food in our secure storage in the kitchen.
We don’t have enough bandwidth to support everyone’s personal device. If you need to check email we keep a laptop set up for guest use.
Our electricity comes from our vintage 1918 Pelton hydroelectric plant. When it is running at its normal capacity we have 24-hour clean green energy. If the creek that powers it is low, or if the plant needs maintenance, we switch over to a generator that runs from 5am to 10pm.
Because bears are opportunistic.
We don’t have a restaurant; we have a camp kitchen and meals are provided during your stay. Our cooks will prepare a hearty breakfast every morning with a variety of hot and cold items. At breakfast time, we will put out the fixings for you to build a mighty sandwich and sack lunch for the trail. We prepare a from-scratch, ranch style dinner in the evening.
If we know in advance we can accommodate most special requests.
Your cabin faucet and the hoses around the property are fed by a creek, and the water is untreated. There are a couple of faucets that have potable water that you can use to fill your water bottles.
